31 March, 2010

It was a beautiful, sunny day today! There was a bit of wind at points, but the weather was rather calm for this time of year. I took advantage of the beautiful day to practice contact juggling outdoors. This is the baseball I've been working with. Not as awesome as LH's "orb", but it's keeping me from getting rusty until I procure a contact juggling ball of my own.

30 March, 2010

Last day at college. The morning started with a drawing class. I sat back and watched LH and one of her friends from the class worked on their pieces. I discovered this blackboard and eraser in the corner of the class room and took a quiet moment to steal away and attempt one of the few styles of art that I can at least somewhat manage. The lighting in that room did not wholly agree with my camera; no matter the setting I put it on. So pardon the graininess.

I spent the entire day shadowing LH. I got to attend college classes, meet awesome people, play with her contact juggling ball and walk the campus with her. In short - it rocked! She and I had a great time hanging out and were thrilled to end the day with a couple of Dr. Who episodes.

The most fascinating architectural feature of the campus is (in my humble opinion) their lovely fountain. I insisted on visiting it three times (twice on Monday, once on Tuesday), 'cos I fell in love with it. The first photograph is an experimental black and white shot that I took. Attempting to be artistic. Dunno if that worked so much, but I'm happy with it nonetheless.

The second shot is of the fountain as the sun made its descent. The orange-ish lighting on the left side of the jets of water happens to be fading sunlight. Too pretty to not photograph.

28 March, 2010

As I didn't have access to my own computer while staying with LH at her college, the posts from Sunday and Monday are delayed. I'm fudging the time stamp on this and the following post for the sake of organization.

This is a picture of LH's contact juggling ball. It is clear. And awesome. And reflects images in a ridiculously cool manner. This right here is the wall on LH's side of the dorm.

Bonus picture:
LH was staying at Mangy's house for a portion of her Spring Break, so that's where I caught a ride with the former. Before hanging out with Mangy and her daughter at Panera for a bit, we unloaded my stuff into LH's truck. One of Mangy's kitty cats, Simon, decided to check my car out while I had the trunk open. I thought that I had a new pet!

My mostly packed duffel. I worked on getting stuff ready for heading south with LH tomorrow. I'm greatly looking forward to it!

Some of the Colorado CPers met for a mini moot today. I was glad to be able to attend and took this shot while we were hanging out. Yes, those are poker chips. No, they don't represent real money. We were trying out a game invented by one of our ex-members and had a good time while doing it!

It was a shopping day (one day early, but I'm going to a mini moot tomorrow so there won't be time for me to assist with the grocery shopping). At Wal-Mart, my mom and I discovered this really neat display stand. I generally forget to take my photograph until we're out of the store, but I couldn't resist taking a picture of this fella. Pretty neat, eh?

This is my mother's bird bath, located in one of the areas of our yard that was lightly covered by Tuesday's snow storm. Yes, in this case, three inches was relatively light.

There's nothing better to do than cuddle up with a good book when you have nothing pressing to attend to. I'm over halfway through this volume and still marking my place with the bookmark I made myself.

I noticed sprouts in my EggPlant this afternoon! There are only four of them, but if you look really closely, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the itty bitty green shoots.

It was a slow day. And we had some fresh bananas. One never knows when stock images of bananas might come in handy.

Took some of the St. Patty's Day decorations down today. These are some of the handmade shamrocks that I displayed in my window this year... and good incentive to wear sunscreen.

(The green rectangle is a sample of the same paper I used to make the shamrocks. The leftmost shamrock is the back side of one of the decorations, the rightmost the side that faced toward the window.)

17 March, 2010 - St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day! This is a closeup of the design on my new St. Pat's shirt.

This is the beautiful shamrock plant that my grandparents gave my mom this year. She actually received one from them last year as well, but it accidentally got left out in the sun too long, which is /definitely/ not a good thing for plants that thrive in moist, cloudy Ireland.

One of the birds at our local feed store. This is Gracen, the African Grey parrot. He represents my favorite parrot species which is generally rather anti-social, though highly intelligent. This boy's companion, a cockatoo, is allowed to hop around on a perch atop her cage, since she's rather personable. Unfortunately, Gracen is known for biting unsuspecting customers. Every African Grey that I've met has been, since they bond to one person only. However, if I were to purchase a bird, I'd invest in one of these critters. (Without the intention of keeping it in a public establishment.)

Daylight Savings Time began today. Not my favorite day of the year. I decided to sleep in this morning, forgetting that I had lost an hour. I understand its importance, but still I always stop and ask "Why?". Ah well...

We took a visit to the local Mining Museum to attend a lecture on the quilts of the "Wild West". When that was over, we strolled about the grounds and looked at the old mining equipment, the nature surrounding us and -most importantly- the burros! This is Nugget, the donkey.

It was a relatively relaxed and uneventful day. I got the privilege of starring with the infamous teddy bear, Jared, in his daily photo (again). And thus, I decided that he ought to be my picture of the day. This is a shot of Jared and his faithful photographer (my sister) CoolBreeze. You can follow Jared in his daily adventures by clicking here.

What you see here is four ceramic eggs. These eggs contain a treasure very few would expect... Seeds and potting soil! These little critters are cleverly named "EggPlants" and are something my mom and I discovered last Easter. However, we were too late to get the type of EggPlant we wanted - Snap Dragons. This year, we got there in time. Before we cracked them open (you have to gently crack the top off of the egg for the plant(s) inside to grow), my mom suggested that we decorate them.

(The eggs from left to right: CoolBreeze's egg, my mom's egg, my egg and Boom's egg.)

We took a visit to Current, where I did some much needed birthday shopping and found a new decoration for my room - horse lights! It's an extremely trivial purchase, I know, but I've been wanting something of the sort to hang on my mirror for a while now. However, back when I had a hedgie cage right in front of said mirror, I didn't feel comfortable with putting anything of the sort there.

I was clumsy enough to spill soda on our keyboard on Monday morning. I thought I had cleaned all of the soda out of it, but it turns out that I left some soda underneath the "H", "." and "0" keys, causing them to stick something awful. This is my family's temporary keyboard.

It was a cloudy and rainy day, which caught my family by surprise. This is a shot of one of our tree's branches against the contrast of the grey skies (taken from beneath the tree). I had a tough time getting this photograph without catching raindrops on my camera lens.

Another beautiful winter day! We let the dogs spend some time playing outside while we lounged around and chatted. I managed to catch this shot of the two pups playing. It's a bit off-center, but it's tough to capture critters when they're moving so fast.

Stopped by Sonic for some lunch before hitting the archery range this afternoon. The point of this photograph was not actually the new drinks - it was the pineapple.

Another sunny day - this time warm! I spent some time reading out on the deck after which I wandered down to look at the tree in our backyard. I noticed yesterday that a portion of its trunk and several of its branches appeared to be wet and discovered the same thing today. Wondering if the tree had been gashed and was oozing sap, I went up to it and placed my hand on the wet spot. I discovered that the tree did indeed have rivulets of water running down some of its branches. I've yet to figure out where the water is coming from, as we've had no precipitation for several days now. Despite the unsolved mystery, however, I managed to photograph a water droplet suspended from one of the branches.

The dogs enjoyed playing out in the nice, sunny weather today. I wandered around the backyard and took advantage of the natural lighting to catch some neat shots.

1 March, 2010

I must make a startling statement about today's photo - it has been edited to an extreme that I am not proud of. Okay, it's not that dramatic, however, I don't generally like applying edits to my daily pictures. I took the below photo in the drive-thru of Burger King. The stunning contrast of the red mulch, grey and white rocks and dark green bush was very eye catching, I thought. I did not realize as I was taking the photo, however, that I managed to capture someone's litter as well as the beautiful colors. So, this picture has been drastically cropped to cut out the silly cigarette box that nearly starred on my blog. Hopefully it's no worse for the wear.
